Some of the bills and initiatives I sponsored or co-sponsored include the following:


HEALTH
> Supported keeping as many deserving people on TennCare as possible. For those who were removed, supported proposed "safety net"features.
> Urged TennCare Bureau staff to conduct study on health disparities in Tennessee.
> Supported legislation to launch a new program to help uninsured Tennessee residents to obtain medicine free or at a discount.

SAFE COMMUNITIES
> Passed a bill that increases the penalties for stalking.
> Co-sponsored "Meth-Free Tennessee Act of 2005" which increased penalties for meth makers and made it more difficult for individuals to access meth ingredients.

EDUCATION
> Continued to support legislation that would provide more "Hope" Scholarships, derived from lottery funds, to African American and other minority students.
> Co-sponsored legislation to provide a strong, high quality Pre-K Program in Tennessee which will provide thousands of at-risk students an early start on their education.

SALES TAX HOLIDAY
> Co sponsored the "Sales Tax Holiday" bill which will exempt sales tax on clothing and school supplies with sale prices of $100 or less per item and computers with sale prices of $1500.00 per item. Sales Tax Holidays will be Aug.4, 2006 and Aug 6, 2006

OTHER
> Sponsored a resolution to rename a portion of I-40 in honor of Mrs. Coretta Scott King.
